Schundler Campaign Breaks New TV, Radio Spots
Ads showcase Mayor’s ability to build coalitions to get things done

(WEST ORANGE, AUGUST 14) - Schundler for Governor campaign manager Bill Pascoe, unveiling the campaign’s latest television and radio commercials, today issued the following statement:

“Bret Schundler is a man who’s proven his ability to work across party, racial, and ethnic lines to get good things done for the people he serves. Rather than focus on pleasing the special interests, he’s made it a point of his career to work on behalf of the people he leads. He’s a believer in the axiom that there’s no limit to what a man can accomplish if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit - his entire political history is the story of a leader confronting long odds and powerful interest groups, and then working to rally the people behind him to get things done.

“That’s how Bret got taxes down in Jersey City, and how he slashed the crime rate, and how he helped create tens of thousands of new jobs, and how he helped fix the schools. And that’s how he’s going to cut property taxes, reform schools without just throwing more money at them, reduce sprawl, and finally get rid of those darn Parkway tolls.”

The ads follow and can be played with Real Player. The transcripts are as follows:

AUDIO:
Bret Schundler: "When the people come to actually believe in you ‘cause they know you, they've worked with you, and they trust that you're out there to work with them -- to do the right thing -- there's almost nothing you can't accomplish.

“When I was elected Mayor, things were tough here in Jersey City, but we got an enormous amount done. We changed the way government works. We got property taxes down, we improved some of the educational opportunities families have. We got crime down.

“And I'm convinced that we can do that across that state.

“We just have to believe in the power of the people.”

AUDIO
Bret Schundler: “Where I see there being a lot of problems in government today, you’ve got political leaders who sit in a room and talk with other political leaders. But when you go and you say, well who’s there at the table? It’s a whole group of other elected officials and lobbyists.

“Well, I don’t see some of the homeless people we have here in Jersey City sitting at that table -- I don’t see some of the low income single mothers who are trying to make ends meet and raise their children sitting at that table.

“I want to be someone who does understand where people are coming from … who people feel they can approach, and where we can talk together and then where you get people together, and you form a consensus not based on what some lobbyist and other politicians say, but you form a consensus based on what people really believe in. And my experience is that -- then political fights, which other people, other politicians, think are impossible to win, actually ARE possible to win … when you have the people on your side.
