(WEST ORANGE, SEPTEMBER 25) - Schundler for Governor campaign manager Bill Pascoe, announcing the release of a new biographical video, today issued the following statement:
“Now more than ever, New Jersey voters are looking for proven leadership. They’re looking to choose as their next Governor a man who’s got a track record of courage and compassion, a leader who’s proven he’s willing to take on the tough fights to do what’s right for the people. They want a leader of conviction, a man who knows who he is and what he’s about, a man who doesn’t have to read the latest focus group results to know what he thinks, a man who doesn’t waffle on the issues in search of votes. Bret Schundler is that proven leader.
“As part of our ongoing communication outreach effort, today we’re shipping a biographical video of Bret Schundler to 250,000 independent voters. Entitled ‘With the People,’ this video explains in detail Bret’s background and beliefs, and his leadership record as Mayor of Jersey City, and makes a simple point -- when you have the courage and common sense to rally the people behind you, there’s no limit to what can be accomplished.
“Where Jersey City was once a corrupt and decaying city, it now stands as a jewel across the Hudson River from Manhattan Island. That didn’t happen overnight. And it didn’t happen without Bret’s ability to cross political and racial lines, manage a fiscal crisis, control property taxes, find innovative ways to reduce crime and attract businesses, jobs and families.
“Keep in mind that Bret Schundler led Jersey City to this renaissance as the first GOP Mayor of Jersey City since World War I. As a Republican who brought people together from different backgrounds, Bret proved himself to be a very special leader who could win three mayoral elections in a city dominated by Democrats for the better part of the 20th century.
“By definition, the word ‘leader’ means someone who is at the head of the pack, someone who can see around corners where others can’t even notice the corners are there. We have property taxes that surpass most of the other states in the country. We have an educational system that leaves far too many children behind. We have parkway tolls that are unnecessary. And more than ever before, we have come to realize New Jersey’s strategic importance to this country’s security. New Jersey needs and deserves a leader who understands these issues and offers a positive vision for how we can solve these problems, keep our economy strong, and prepare for an uncertain future.
