Schundler Campaign Releases New TV and Radio Spots
Ads Reinforce Pledge to Get Rid of GSP Tolls

(West Orange, August 16, 2001) Schundler for Governor Campaign Manager Bill Pascoe issued the following statement regarding new radio and tv ads about the Garden State Parkway Tolls:

“Remember the Donna Summer song title ‘Enough is Enough’? Those three words capture the mood of New Jersey’s drivers. They’ve had enough of higher property taxes and tolls on the Garden State Parkway that cause traffic tie-ups and add more stress to their commute and more impact on their wallets.

“These ads show Bret Schundler’s concern for New Jersey’s drivers and the nightmare that has become the GSP. Bret Schundler is the candidate who knows we must take action to give New Jersey drivers and commuters a break. Bret Schundler is the candidate who wants to take down the Garden State Parkway tolls now.

“Bret Schundler will be the first person at the first Parkway toll with sledgehammer in hand to get the tolls off the GSP after he becomes New Jersey’s next Governor.

“New Jersey’s Department of Transportation is looking at ways to increase the speed limit on major highways, aiming to cut down the driving time of New Jersey commuters. I can’t think of a better way to cut down the GSP commute than to take the tolls off the Parkway immediately! New Jersey drivers will get to their jobs with less commuting hassle and get home in time for dinner with the family. No tolls = Less time on roads. Simple math, folks.

“I’m not surprised that Jim McGreevey does not support ripping down the GSP tolls. After all, his record on tolls is the same as his record on taxes. Under Mayor McGreevey, property taxes shot up 59% in the 1990’s for the people of Woodbridge. With Bret Schundler in the driver’s seat, however, New Jerseyans will finally get property tax relief. And Bret Schundler will get rid of those darn Parkway tolls.

Transcripts of the 10-second and 60-second spots and Links to RealAudio multimedia are below. The 10-second ad is a radio and tv spot. The 60-second ad is a radio spot.

End Tolls
Radio Ad
60-seconds:

Music and SFX reporter talking about traffic at tolls w/ traffic noise and helicopter…
"Major delays on the Garden State Parkway -- traffic is tied up for miles…"

Callers :
"Tolls on the Parkway cause accidents -- they waste time"
"They’re dangerous. They slow traffic"
"They’re atrocious -- they should never have been put up there…

ANNCR:
"People are fed up with Parkway tolls -- They’re tired of the traffic -- the danger -- And Bret Schundler is the only candidate for Governor who will end Parkway tolls for good.

Bret:
"We can take those tolls down and we don’t have to raise some other tax. We just have to be willing to say no to special interests. And I’ll tell you this - when I’m elected, we’re going to have those tolls down before the end of the year, and I’m gonna be the guy who’s first in line with the sledge hammer -- (laughs)…

Callers:
"Finally there’s a candidate not afraid of the special interests…"
"I think that Mr. Schundler has a great idea."
"He’s going to get rid of those tolls -- not just talk about it."

ANNCR:
Bret Schundler -- The courageous reformer who will cut property taxes, improve schools, and tear down the Parkway tolls.

Caller:
"Bret Schundler will be a wonderful Governor -- I just know it!"
