By Chapter 9 of the Laws of 1998, the Delaware Bay oyster schooner A.J. Meerwald, is the State tall ship.

The oak ship, launched in 1928, is 115 long with a beam height of 22 feet, 3 inches. From its home port of Bivalve, the A.J. Meerwald, serves as a floating classroom.
