A person must be at thirty years of age or older, a citizen for at least twenty years, and a resident of New Jersey for the seven years preceding the election. An exception to the residency requirement is granted to those having resided outside of New Jersey on the public business of the New Jersey or the United States.
The Governor can not be at the same time a member of Congress or hold any other Office in the State. If the governor accepts another position, the Office of Governor immediately becomes vacant.
